A Yorkshire photographer, Tessa Bunney, has been announced as the winner of the third ‘Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year Awards’. Tessa, whose winning photograph of a woman making noodles, taken in Lao PDR, was named as the overall winner of the prestigious international awards after also winning the Food in Action category.
Out of over 6,000 images entered into the competition this year – double the number that were entered in the first year - 400 were shortlisted. After much deliberation, category winners were picked and photographer Tessa Bunney, was named the overall winner of the competition and was awarded the £5,000 prize at a champagne Tattinger reception at London’s The Mall Galleries.
The images were judged by a panel of 33 experts in the worlds of food and photography including restaurateur, chef and author, Yotam Ottolenghi, TV presenter Julia Bradbury and leading food photographer to Jamie Oliver, David Loftus. For the second year, journalist, broadcaster and restaurant critic, Jay Rayner chaired the judging panel of 33 and compered the reception attended by more than 400 people from around the world.
This year, we were delighted to see three new categories added to the competition; Politics of Food, Unearthed® Food in Film and ‘Food Sn-Apping’. ‘Food Sn-Apping’ is designed to recognise the gorgeous images of food captured on mobile phones. The images were entered via a downloadable app with £2 being donated to charity ‘Action Against Hunger’ for every image entered in this category.
