A feast for champions for Write It from The Guild of Food Writers
The Guild of Food Writers Write It competition in partnership with Pink Lady® apples saw its largest number of entries this year, making it the most competitive year yet! To celebrate the talented winners and runners-up, the Guild of Food Writers and Pink Lady® hosted a lunch in the epicentre of London’s culinary scene, Borough Market.
Winners, Monica Alcover (10 years and under) and Sohan Desai (11-14 years), along with runners-up, Oliver Docherty (10 years and under), Iris Stovell (10 years and under), Ella Tingley (11-14 years) and Grace Williamson (11-14 years), headed to Cookhouse in Borough Market on the 2nd July to enjoy a feast like no other. The celebration was hosted by the eminent judges Karen Barnes (editor of Delicious Magazine), Stefan Gates (from CBBC’s Disaster Chefs) and Martha Collison (Great British Bake Off finalist) all of whom toasted the success of these talented young writers of tomorrow.
Henrietta Inman, the renowned pastry chef, served up hearty scotch eggs, roasted summer vegetables, artisan breads, exquisite cheeses and vibrant salads. Two mouth-watering summer-fruit tarts were then presented, complete with fresh juices and fizz (for the accompanying adults of course!). This really was a feast fit for foodie champions!
Angela Clutton, co-chair of the Guild of Food Writers, remarked upon the exceptional quality of the winners and runners-up pieces amongst such a high volume and high standard of entries this year. Finally, Stefan Gates closed the lunch by reading Monica Alcover’s and Sohan Desai’s exquisite entries.
