"G'day from down under" - Pink Lady® competition winner takes a trip of a lifetime
Last October, to celebrate the 45-year Australian heritage of our delicious Pink Lady® apples, M&S ran an exclusive on-pack competition to win the holiday of a lifetime to Australia! Our lucky winner Liz Godley and husband John headed ‘down under’ to experience the trip of a lifetime.
As part of the prize, Montague Orchards, growers of Pink Lady® apples in Australia, offered Liz and John an exclusive tour of where the apples are grown, on the outskirts of Melbourne. This gave our happy winners the opportunity to visit their daughter Rhiannon who lives on the other side of the world with her husband, Luke.
Before heading to the orchard in Melbourne, Liz and her family spent quality time exploring Sydney’s idyllic beaches, architectural masterpieces and the coastlines around the vibrant city. They even managed to squeeze in a visit to the Blue Mountains, exposing them to vast sights of often unexplored valleys.
After the sights and sounds of Sydney, Liz and her family arrived in Melbourne to get ready for their exciting Pink Lady® orchard tour. They settled into Novotel Melbourne Central, a luxury, four-star hotel located downtown, where they spent four nights amidst a plethora of restaurants and cocktail bars. During their stay they attended a game of Australian Football at the Marvel Stadium and took a day out to savour the views of Melbourne’s magnificent west coastline, which hosts the quaint seaside towns of Torquay, Anglesea and Lorne.
On the day of the Pink lady® orchard tour, Liz and her family were picked up by their very own chauffeur and taken to the orchard. They had tea by the picturesque lake, enjoying a platter of biscuits, sweet treats and some homemade Pink Lady® apple juice.
They were met by Claire Flitchett, International Strategy Manager for Montague, Scott Montague 3rd generation family member and representatives from our Pink Lady® Global family, who took them through the orchard where they learned about the origins and rich history of our apples. Liz and her family witnessed first-hand what really goes into growing Pink Lady® apples from pip to perfection.
Liz saw how the apple trees were trained and pruned to maximise exposure to sunlight, giving our blushing apples more time in the sun.
